Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 8 strawberries
- 298g can Asda mandarin segments in juice
- milk chocolate buttons
- white chocolate buttons
- milk chocolate drops
- 75g Asda Extra Special Belgian dark chocolate, 76% cocoa solids
- 500g tub Asda fresh custard
- 284ml carton Asda double cream
- 2 Asda chocolate muffins
- 1 tablet orange jelly
Method
1 Tear the jelly into squares and put them in a measuring jug. Add 3 tablespoons of cold water and microwave on high for 1 to 1.5 minutes. Stir until the jelly is dissolved. Drain the mandarins and add the juice to the jelly. Add cold water to make up to 575ml.
2 Break the chocolate muffins into pieces and put in a trifle bowl.
3 Peel and slice the banana and carefully hull and halve the strawberries. Add to the muffins with the mandarin segments.
4 Pour over the jelly and put in the fridge to set.
5 Break the chocolate into squares and put in a bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute - the chocolate should hold its shape but be soft when touched with a spoon.
6 Stir the custard into the chocolate and pour it over the set jelly.
7 Put the cream in a clean bowl and whisk until it starts to thicken - it should form soft, floppy peaks. Use a balloon whisk for this and get someone else to take over if your arm starts to ache! Or ask a grown-up to help you use an electric hand mixer. If you do, make sure you switch the machine off before you lift the beaters out of the bowl, or the cream will fly all over the kitchen!
8 Spread the cream over the chocolate custard and write MUM on top with chocolate drops. Make chocolate flowers using white buttons as petals and a brown button for the centre.
9 Keep the trifle in the fridge until your mum is ready to tuck in!
