Who can resist a luscious,
plump strawberry – the essence
of summer in one fruit. Keep it
simple to enjoy them at their
best – eat them with cream or
serve with champagne as a
romantic treat for two.

Ingredients
- 3 large egg whites
- 175g caster sugar
- 600g strawberries, halved
- 2 x 284ml Asda double cream, whipped
Method
1 Preheat oven to 110C/Gas 0.5. Line a baking sheet with nonstick baking parchment.
2 In a completely clean, grease-free metal or glass bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff. Whisk in half the caster sugar until stiff and shiny. Fold in the remaining sugar with a large metal spoon.
3 Using two dessertspoons, spoon six meringues onto the baking sheet, leaving a space between each. Bake for 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours until the meringues are dry and lift off the paper with ease.
4 To serve, roughly crush the meringues and layer in glass dishes with the fresh strawberries and spoonfuls of the cream.
