A versatile sauce that can be added to pasta or used as a pizza topping

Ingredients
- 2tbsp Asda olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 heaped tbsp tomato purée
- 2tsp Asda dried oregano
- 2tsp sugar
- 1kg tomatoes, roughly chopped
- 20g pack fresh Asda basil, roughly shredded or chopped
Method
1 Heat oil in a large pan and cook the onion gently for 10 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and continue for 1 minute.
2 Stir in the purée and cook for 2 minutes. Add the oregano, sugar and tomatoes, and cook for 20 minutes until the sauce has thickened and tomatoes softened.
3 Stir in the basil leaves, check the seasoning and serve with freshly cooked pasta. To freeze, divide into batches in freezer bags and freeze for up to one month. Thaw thoroughly before use.
