Ingredients
- 175g butter, softened
- 100g caster sugar
- 1 medium egg yolk
- 250g plain flour
- 50g royal icing sugar, made
- up as instructed
- Silver balls and ribbon
Method
1 Preheat the oven to 180C/ 160C Fan/Gas 4. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in the egg yolk and add the flour and mix to a smooth dough. Gather together with your hands, wrap in clingfilm and chill for 30 minutes.
2 Roll out the dough between two sheets of clingfilm to the thickness of a £2 coin.
3 Cut out into stars or trees or just rounds and put on the baking trays, leaving a small gap around the biscuits. If they are to be hung on the tree make a small hole for the ribbon.
4 Bake for 15 minutes, leave for 10 minutes and then cool on a wire tray. Pipe or drizzle some icing onto the biscuits and decorate with silver balls. Allow the icing to set before storing.
