Ingredients
- 225g self-raising flour, sifted
- 3⁄4tsp mixed spice
- 115g butter, chilled
- 115g demerara sugar
- 115g Asda mixed dried fruit
- 1 large egg
- 1-2tbsp milk
- 50g Asda golden marzipan
Method
1 Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Sift the flour and spice into a large bowl. Cut the butter into small pieces and rub it into the fl our with your fi ngertips until it looks like breadcrumbs. Add the demerara sugar and dried fruit.
2 Break the egg into a smaller bowl and add 1 tablespoon milk. Beat with a fork, then add to the fl our mix to make a stiff dough (add a bit more milk if necessary).
3 Put 12 dollops of dough on the baking tray. Roll the marzipan into 24 short strips, about 6cm long by 1⁄2cm wide. Drape over the buns to make crosses. Bake the buns for 15 minutes, then leave to cool on a wire rack.
